New recorder type: the site’s VPN connection

Telegram traffic on the KNX bus can now be recorded without a separate device installed on site. All it takes is an OpenVPN or WireGuard server on the site’s router; KNXSENSE reads the telegrams from the site’s KNX/IP gateways over that connection.

This also makes recording possible when the site’s own visualisation server, for example a Basalte Core, Gira HomeServer or Jung Smart Visu Server, lacks the features to work as a recorder.

The site has to be reachable from the internet: a static IP address or a DDNS name is enough. This recorder does not work behind a shared carrier IP address.

Gira S1 now among the supported recorders

The KNX bus traffic the Gira S1 reads is now recorded in the KNXSENSE cloud as well. No recorder is installed on the device; KNXSENSE reads the telegrams directly over the device’s own secure remote access.

Recording takes none of the device’s three ETS tunnel slots, so ETS keeps all three. ETS tunnelling to the site is available through KNXSENSE as well.
